Why You Don't Want To Buy a Cheap Treadmill

By Torii Tompson

When you are contemplating purchasing a treadmill to help you lose weight it is really important that you don't get tempted by the first cheap machine you see. You should see a treadmill as a long term investment in your healthier, slimmer lifestyle and you could really live to regret buying a cheap machine.

From personal experience I can tell you that a good quality treadmill should be in the $1,000-$1,5000 price range, or maybe even more. There are plenty of machines in stores that are priced under $1,000 but these can cause you a lot more problems than they solve.

A decent treadmill, which may cost a little more, will provide a much better warranty on the motor and deck as well as parts and service. Cheaper models usually have a warranty that expires shortly after you buy it.

Many people invest in a treadmill so that they don't have to pay more money to join a gym. But what if you buy a cheap treadmill with a 90 day warranty, and it breaks down four months later? If you then have to turn around and pay for another treadmill, you will have saved a dime.

Treadmills have to support your body each and every time you use them, and if you use your treadmill for jogging or for running, then you will be putting even more pressure on the mechanics of your machine.

A good quality treadmill is designed to be strong enough to cope with the impact of your body over an extended period of time. Cheaper treadmills like those found in discount stores are often not built to last more than a year at most. The motor will be strained as you use it, and the deck will quickly wear out as you work your way to a slimmer body.

If you decide to use the incline, or walk at a faster pace, the rollers to support the deck have extra work to do. Cheap or treadmills use cheaper parts, and eventually when one part gives out, you're forced to fix it yourself with the part that you buy, or replace the entire machine completely.

One of the most important things to bear in mind is that your treadmill should be suitable for the style of exercise your prefer. For example, if you only want to use a treadmill for gentle walking, then you should expect to pay around $1,000. If you want to also jog on your machine then you should plan to spend a little more, and if you want to be able to run on your treadmill then good quality machines start at around the $2,000 mark.

A better model will also provide additional perks such as a wider and longer deck and a variety of preinstalled routines for you to choose from. You don't want to compromise your long-term fitness goals by skimping on the quality of treadmill that you buy. You may pay a little more upfront, the you'll save money in the long run.
