Fitness Club Guidelines and Tips

By Lindelwa Laz

Joining a fitness club can present you with so many choices and it is easy too end up having a headache, but they can be effective motivators. Finding the right one will be much simpler if you know what it is you want to get out of it.

However, there are matters to think about in regard to the type of gym you need to look for, before you join the gym of your choice. Not to be dismissed as a minor pint should be where the club is located, if it is not close to your place of work or home you will quickly find reasons not to go.

Make sure that the instructor has the necessary experience to work with you so he should be a certified professional that can work with you safely and effectively. Your instructor will need to know if you have physical limitations and if that is the case if he or she is qualified to train you. It is easy to forget that sometimes the staff might not actually care about your custom so it is worth testing them on what they know about the services on offer and how they feel about their work. It would be nice to know if the fitness club you have joined has a dietitian or a resident physiotherapist.

Make sure that the facility is open during the time you are most likely to use it and see what programs are there for you and check if they suit your interests. If you have a desire to have special classes, aerobics for instance, check to see if the fitness club has these and can let you have a free trial. At peak periods in many clubs you can find yourself waiting to use the equipment so satisfy yourself that there is a sufficient number of machines for even busy times. One thing to look for is the age of the equipment; the older it is the more likely it is to break down which doesn't look good on the club.

Many clubs have a good social calendar which is worth noting and attending to get to know a few people who are members that may be able to help you with your training in the future. The cost of membership is obviously a deciding factor so ensure you know all the charges, including those for classes and how often they increase the membership fee.

If you are serious about joining a fitness club, you will really need to look at more than one; after all it is your money! This may seem like a great deal of effort but if you find a club that you feel comfortable with, the chances are you won't cancel your membership and will continue to attend on a regular basis.
